There is something magical about experiencing Lake Wānaka before the world wakes up.
I met Suyii and Marcos in the soft blue light of early morning, as mist drifted across the lake and the iconic Wanaka Tree stood quietly at the water’s edge. What is usually one of New Zealand’s busiest and most photographed locations felt completely still – a rare moment where we had the landscape almost entirely to ourselves.
Together we wandered along the shoreline, before I gave Suyii and Marcos some gentle prompts, to capture their love story amidst the quiet beauty of the morning. My approach to couples photography is centred around creating space for genuine connection – allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than simply posing for the camera.
The result was a collection of images that felt like them: intimate, playful and full of warmth despite the chilly winter air! A reminder that the most meaningful photographs often come from the smallest moments — a shared glance, a gentle touch, or simply being together.
